My Story.
Jessica HR Cote
Owner + Designer
I took what I loved in the world and earned a degree in Fine Art and Psychology. At 21 I drove cross-country for three months with my best friend, in hopes of figuring it all out, and, if I am being honest, I was following a boy, a boy who became a husband, and eventually a father to our two amazing kids.
I settled in Charleston, got a job with Sherri Taylor, the owner of Christian Michi on King Street. I was buying, selling, and setting vignettes throughout the store—a carnival of amazing finds and taste. It felt like home to me. But I learned. I learned the power of scale, placement, and how what appeals to one person may not always be for everyone. This experience set the tone for the rest of my life. I discovered that being in a space has the ability to elevate, inspire, calm, and enchant.
Soon, I was helping friends, realtors, builders, and clients.
It has been over 30 years, my story is still going, and Sapling is my next chapter. Johns Island is my home now, my kids are in college, and my husband and I are enjoying life with our two English bulldogs and our home on the water.
Our home tells the tale of our lives, richly woven and layered with interesting finds and art collected over the years. Taking with me all I learned from the days doing window displays at Christian Michi, I continue to create spaces that resonate.
